Oscar shortlisted South African Film “The Wound” aka Inxeba and African Movie Academy Awards’ Best Film of 2018, “Five Fingers For Marseilles” are now available for streaming on Showmax.
Inxeba follows the story of Xolani, a lonely factory worker who joins the men of his community in the mountains of the Eastern Cape to initiate a group of teenage boys into manhood. When a defiant initiate from the city discovers his best-kept secret, Xolani’s entire existence begins to unravel.
The movie’s release had been followed by controversies as traditional rulers of the Xhosa community called for ban of the movie on grounds that it is an infringement on the rights of the Xhosa traditional community. The community leaders also called for the reclassification of the movie as porn, but it was later overturned after a long court hearing.
Inxeba is directed by John Trengove and has Won 28 international awards.
Five Fingers is a 2017 South African thriller directed by Michael Matthews.
The story follows the young “Five Fingers” who fought for the rural town of Marseilles against brutal police oppression. After fleeing in disgrace, freedom-fighter-turned-outlaw Tau returns to Marseilles, seeking a peaceful pastoral life. When he finds the town under a new threat, he reluctantly fights to free it. Can he free himself from his past? Will the Five Fingers stand again?
Five Finger for Marseilles was screened in the Discovery section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and won the award for best film at the 2018 AMAA.
