Come November 8, Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom in Nigeria will welcome filmmakers, theatre practitioners, and film lovers for the first ever Uyo Theatre And Film Festival (UTAFF).
With an objective to “serve as a premier platform for increasing development in indigenous performing and media arts in Akwa Ibom State”, the film festival themed: “New Talent, New Technology in Theatre and Film Practice” will hold from November 8 to 10.
The festival manager and curator, Charles Ukpong explained that the “Uyo Theatre And Film Festival (UTAFF) is equally aimed at celebrating the prevalent symbiosis and influences of multi-faceted African theatre and the phenomenal Nollywood.”
The Uyo Theatre and Film Festival will hold in four locations: Silverbird Cinema, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Council for Arts and Culture and Akwa Ibom State University and will honor respected Nigerian filmmaker, Emem Isong with her film, “Ayamma” opening the festival.
“Kasala”, a theatre performance directed by co-founder and festival Director, Victor Thompson will also be part of the opening day features with dignitaries like the Governor of Akwa Ibom, DG of the NFVCB, President of NANTAP, Emem Isong, and a host of others expected to deliver keynote addresses at the festival.
