Singer, Simi Set to Make Acting Debut In ‘Mokalik’

Nigerian Afropop alternative singing sensation, Simisola Ogunleye, aka Simi, is set to get her first role as an actress in an upcoming flick titled `Mokalik’, produced by prolific filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan.

Sharing the news via his Instagram page, the versatile filmmaker and director best known for his work “Figurine”, said the agreement was struck on Sunday at the producer’s home following the songstress’ acceptance to do the film after going through the script for a week.

“Mokalik” (Mechanic) chronicles the life and career of an 11-year-old boy, Jaiye, from the middle-class suburbs who is made to spend a day as an economically disadvantaged apprentice at a mechanic workshop.

Casts in the film include Wale Akorede (Okunu), Ayo Ogunshina (Papa Lolo) and Dayo Akinpelu (Alabi Yellow). It was revealed that Simi will be playing Simi, daughter of a Buka (cafeteria) owner whose character holds a significant part in the movie plot.

Simi, whose album “Simisola” is still receiving rave reviews from fans, also took to her Instagram page to confirm the news.

The sensational singer came into the limelight in 2014 after she released “Tiff”, a song which was nominated in two categories at The Headies 2015 and which further brought her to mainstream recognition.
