“Masrah Masr” (Egypt Theatre), the widely acclaimed Egyptian theatrical troupe launched their fourth season on the 21st of august, incidentally the first day of Eid el-Adha. The troupe founder, popular Egyptian actor Ashraf Abdel Baky, made this known recently using his Instagram handle.
Considered one of the uniquely successful theatrical experiences in Egyptian history, the show presents a new one-act play written and directed by Nader Salah el-Din, every week.
“Masrah Masr”, which screens on MBC Masr Channel, was first launched based on the idea of relying on new actors every week, according to Abdel Baky. He also said people criticized his idea when the troupe first launched its performance, thinking he was crazy.
He, however, opined that he and his team endeavored to comply with theater rules, ensuring they don’t go against the law, and in the process, he had created a uniquely familial bond among members.
All new faces presented by Abdel Baky during past seasons have all gone on to become well-known stars. Current troupe members include: Ali Rabie, Mostafa Khater, Hamdy el Marghany, Mohamed Osama (Osos), Dina Mohasen (Wizoo) and Esraa Abdel Fattah, among others.
