Egyptian Actor on Interpol’s Terror Watch List Arrested in Turkey

Egyptian actor, Hisham Abdullah who has been on the watch list of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has been arrested in Turkey on terror-related charges. Hisham Abdullah was arrested on Thursdays by Turkish authorities.

Confirming the arrest, his wife, Ghada Naguib, posted a one and a half minute Facebook video wherein she blamed the local Egyptian media for handling her husband’s arrest wrongly by calling him a terrorist, while insisting her husband would not be deported back to Egypt.

The Egyptian actor, Hisham Abdullah is a host with the Turkish-based Al-Sharq TV Channel, and has been known to be overly critical of the Egyptian government.

Back in 2011, he was one of the vocal proponent of the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak, regularly appearing on al Tahrir Square with other protesters. He also regularly protested against the Muslim Brotherhood’s sweep to power after Mubarak was deposed.

He later moved to Turkey to work in Al-Sharq channel that was launched in 2014. Hisham Abdullah appears in his TV program on Al-Sharq, using the media platform to attack Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s policies.

The 58 year old actor has starred in such television series as Khayber (2013), Tamasih Elnil (2014), Tofahet Adam (2014), Al Sa’look (2015), and a host of others.
