After several back and forth on what the Ghana film industry should be called, stakeholders and key players in the industry finally reached a conclusion to name the fast growing industry “Gollywood”.

This decision was reached at the Ghana 60 Years Film summit which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre on July 12, 2018.

Other names such as Ghallygold, Ghallywood and Anansekrom had been suggested in previous years and though “Ghallywood” is widely used by the media, but none of these names were made official for addressing the Ghana film industry.

Present at the event where the name “Gollywood” was launched are: President of Ghana Actors Guild, Samuel Fiscian and the South African High Commission to Ghana, H.E Lulu Xingwana, Socrate Sarfo (Movie Africa), Abdul Salam Mumuni (Venus Films), Paul Adjei (Paul Gee) and actors like Fiifi Coleman, Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah and Naana Hayford and many more.

The name “Gollywood” is coined after other world’s top movie industries like America’s ‘Hollywood’, India’s ‘Bollywood’ and Nigeria’s ‘Nollywood’.
