South African producer, Anant Singh was recently honored  at the first ever USIBA Creative Awards at Emperors Place, Johannesburg. The USIBA is the highest accolade in the Cultural and Creative Industries in South Africa. Anant Singh was given the USIBA Honorarium in the Audio Visual and Creative Category for the pioneering role he played in the development of South Africa’s movie industry.

With a career spanning almost four decades with the production of over eighthy films, Anant Singh is widely acknowledged as a pioneer in the South African Film Industry. Some of the films produced by Anant Singh include “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”, “A Place of Weeping”, “Cry, Beloved Country”, “Sarafina!” and a host of others.

Born and raised in Durban, Singh started his journey into filmmaking by working part-time in a movie rental store while in high school, rewinding movies for R1 a day.
