‘Winnie’ Screened at Teacher’s College Columbia University
“Winnie”, a South African documentary which tells the epic real life story of Winnie Madikizela Mandela screened at Teacher’s College, Columbia University on 9th, December 2017 .
While her husband Nelson Mandela served a 27years sentence in prison, Winnie Mandela on the other hand brushed patriarchy aside and took radical actions for the fight to liberate the South African people under apartheid. Nelson was remembered for his heroic acts, while Winnie was condemned and labeled for the role she took in the uprising. The story tells quite a lot of untold realities of her rise and fall from grace, all these wrapped in a seeming epic tragedy.
The screening was followed by a conversation with “Winnie” Director- Pascale Lamche and Lerato Bokako, Production Manager at Francois Odendaal Productions, South Africa and then a cocktail reception.
