Magdy Ahmed Ali’s Mawlana To Be Screened In The US
The 2016 film Mawlana(The Preacher), which is an adaptation of the 2012 novel by prominent journalist Ibrahim Eissa will be screened on 23 March, 2018 at the Metropolitan State University Film Space in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA.
Directed by Magdy Ahmed Ali, “Mawlana” follows the story of a popular television preacher Sheikh Hatem who is caught in a political web, this brings a taint on his credibility.
After its release in 2016, the movie had stirred several controversies and got a backlash from Sunni Muslim clerics, some of whom had called for the ban of the movie.
The movie will be screening as part of the the Mizna Arab Film Festival’s 2018 Tour, St. Paul Edition, which kicks off on 26 January and this includes screenings of five Arab films.
Mizna is a forum for Arab-American film, literature, and art based in Minneapolis.
